Surfing Basics
- Learning to surf can be tricky, but there are plenty of surf shops in Maui where you can rent a surfboard or hire an enthusiastic instructor to help you learn the basics or improve your technique.
- Learning to stand-up paddleboard will give you some of the basic skills; once you are comfortable with paddleboarding, it should be easier to pick up surfing.
- The West side of the Island offers big waves for experienced surfers but you will also find safe locations for novice surfers on the South and West sides of the Island. Do your research before getting in the water, though, to be sure the location you’ve chosen is appropriate for your level of experience.
